Summer Camp FAQ

Leer en Español

What is the cost of summer camp?

There is just a $50 Registration Fee to save your participant’s spot! Girls in the Game raises funds to cover all other camp fees; we do provide suggested guidelines based on household size and income if you are financially able to cover the cost of camp for your camper. However, this is not a requirement, nor will we check your household income or size. Please reach out if there are additional circumstances we should take into consideration in regards to the registration fee.

How do I register my camper?

  1. Save your camper’s spot by paying the $50 Registration Fee on our website.

  2. Complete the camp packet at one of our in-person events June 10-14. Exact times and dates TBD.

  3. Enjoy the summer!

Where and when will summer camp take place?

Camp will take place at Chicago Jesuit Academy (5058 W Jackson Blvd) and Moore Park, right across the street from CJA. We will gather at Moore Park in the morning and utilize the outdoor space for morning sports activities, and then relocate indoors at Chicago Jesuit Academy in the afternoon when it gets hotter for health and leadership activities. Chicago Jesuit Academy will also be our inclement weather location. Summer Camp will take place from July 8th - August 2nd. Overnight camp will take place from July 31st - August 2nd.

Will we have overnight camp this year?

Yes! We are thrilled to offer our popular Overnight Camp trip at the end of Summer Camp. Campers will depart on Wednesday, July 31st for Overnight Camp at Camp Shaw in Manteno, IL. They will return on the afternoon of Friday, August 2nd. At Camp Shaw campers will participate in fun outdoor activities, roast marshmallows, swim, and participate in an end-of-summer talent show! Overnight camp is optional, and there is no additional cost to attend. However, in order to be eligible to attend overnight camp, participants must:

  1. Be 8 years old or older.

  2. Have an 80% attendance rate for camp.

  3. Be mentally and emotionally ready based on behavior observed by Girls in the Game counselors and staff. Consistent behavioral issues over the course of the summer can result in campers not being eligible for overnight camp.

How many counselors will there be?

We will have 14 Junior Counselors, 3 Rotation Leaders and 2 Senior Counselors. We are proud to have a counselor-to-camper ratio of 1:5.

What about field trips? And swimming?

We plan to do both! In the past, field trips have included Lincoln Park Zoo, ice skating at Fifth Third Arena, a Chicago Sky game, the Northside Archery Club and more. We are currently planning all the field trips for the summer and will update parents and guardians once they have been confirmed.

We also plan to get participants in the water as much as possible! We may not have a pool available at our camp location, however if that is the case, we will add swimming field trips and water days with water balloons, etc. at our camp location.

Is lunch included?

Yes. Campers are always welcome to bring their own lunch, however, we will be providing lunch each day. Campers must bring their own lunch on field trip days.

Is bus transportation included?

Yes, transportation is available on a first-come, first-served basis. We will run three Girls in the Game buses to pick up campers throughout the city, a North Side bus, a South Side bus and a West Side bus, with three scheduled stops for each bus. Bus stops tend to fill up quickly; if a camper wants to secure a spot on a bus, they should get their registration form and deposit in as soon as possible when registration opens. There is no additional cost to ride the bus.
