#stayinthegame with Us!
We do a lot at Girls in the Game. We talk about the leadership skills girls gain, both the skills that come naturally through sports and the lessons that we intentionally build into our curriculum. We talk about the psychological benefits of being active.
But we’re often reminded by the girls themselves of the thing that’s equally critical – the safe, girl-only space our programs provide. Girls tell us how much they trust their coaches and that they can talk about things in the program that they wouldn’t be comfortable talking about in other spaces. This is what makes Girls in the Game special.
The ongoing COVID-19 is crisis is having a deep impact on girls.
- 49% of girls feel more lonely right now, compared to 36% of boys (Common Sense Media, 2020)
- 56% of teens worry about not being able to keep up with schoolwork and extracurricular activities, especially black and Hispanic/Latina teens and girls (Common Sense Media, 2020)
- And many of the communities where girls in our programs live will be the hardest hit during and after this crisis (Chicago Tribune, 2020)
That’s why it’s more important than ever that girls don’t lose their connections to their coaches and Girls in the Game team.
We are launching our #stayinthegame campaign so that we can continue to provide that vital girl-only space during COVID-19 through virtual programs and after the crisis is over. Like many organizations, we’ve had to cancel fundraising events that support our ability to provide programs but we are focused on continuing to reach girls during this time regardless of where they are. We are asking for your help so that we can continue to keep girls in the game – this week, next month, and next year.
Please consider a donation to make sure that the 4,000 girls each year who have come to depend on Girls in the Game are able to stay in the game. All gifts will help to ensure that girls feel supported, continue to learn the lessons of sports, health, and leadership, and have Girls in the Game programs to look forward to when we all return to the world.
