Teen Squad

Girls in the Game Chicago
The signature teen program at Girls in the Game is the Teen Squad, started in 2007, with a grant from the the Osa Foundation.

The Teen Squad is comprised of high school girls from across Chicago who receive training from Girls in the Game on how to lead healthy-lifestyle workshops for younger girls and educate adult women on the needs of girls through Leader to Leader interviews.

The workshops cover sports and fitness activities, nutrition and health education, and leadership topics. Teen Squad members earn incentives and college scholarship money for their involvement.

To celebrate the end of a healthy and successful year, Teen Squad members work together to organize the Girls’ Summit, held in late April. The Girls’ Summit is a healthy-lifestyle workshop open to all girls who participated in Teen Squad workshops throughout the year. All participants in Teen Squad programming work together to orchestrate the entire event from planning the budget to selecting the activities to organizing supplies and leading programming on the day of the event.

Special recognition events, such as the Teen Celebration, help to showcase the honor of being a Teen Squad member.

Teen Club

Girls in the Game Teen Club program is an interactive and engaging way for local high schools to address the developmental needs of teen girls. Members of Teen Club enhance their leadership abilities, get physically active with both traditional and non-traditional sports, and explore important health topics like food deserts and managing stress.

The teens will have the chance to explore topics such as peer pressure, body image, and smart eating while also learning sports like pilates and flag football. Each session will conclude with a service learning project developed and implemented by the teen participants.
