On March 5, 2008, over 400 caring adults took a stand for girls – helping to raise over $150,000 at our annual anniversary gala, “Field of Dreams”. These funds directly support our evidence-based programming, which includes after-school programs, summer camp, one-day clinics, and parent training programs - ensuring that Chicagoland girls have the opportunity to become healthy, happy and strong! The event, held in the Crystal Ballroom at the Hyatt Regency Chicago, featured a premiere silent auction and raffle, including Oprah Tickets, a signed Jim Thome 500 Bat, and an NBC float ride, among the many other items.
Field of Dreams honored champions in the four areas of the Girls in the Game mission:
Sports, Health, Leadership, and Life.
Champions included:
Sports Champion: Dianne Durham, Owner, Skyline Gymnastics
Health Champion: Cynthia K. McLachlan, Girl’s Best Friend Foundation
Leadership Champion: Perri L. Irmer, CEO of the Illinois Sports Facilities Authority
Life Champion: Donna Lopiano, PhD, President of Sports Management Resources
In addition to these awards, Girls in the Game’s Executive Director, Amy Skeen, was presented with the Hershey STRIVE Award by the National Council of Youth Sports in recognition of her dedication to girls’ health, self esteem, and wellness.
We would like to take one final opportunity to thank all of our sponsors, donors, and friends, as well as recognize our lead sponsors for their generous support of this event:
