Game Days introduce girls to
healthy lifestyles—focusing on both physical and emotional well-being!
We would like to recognize three women who have teamed up together to
sponsor a Game Day at James Johnson Elementary which happened on April
28th--each donating $250.

Girls in the Game partners with Healthy Chicago Lawn!On April 24th,
leadership was contagious among Chicago’s girls. Through a collaborative effort
of Girls in the
Game and Healthy
Chicago Lawn, over one-hundred
girls, ages 6-18, teamed up at Marquette Park Fieldhouse for three hours to
explore volleyball, tennis, team building, and maintaining healthy
relationships with friends and family.
A fourth grade participant
shared, “this day taught me not to be scared of being myself and I learned what
being a true friend is.”

Game Days - Girls' Health Fests are fun and interactive
programs that combine sports and fitness activities, team-building and life
skills development, and health education workshops.
Game Days provide an opportunity for communities throughout Chicago
to help Girls in the Game reach as many girls as possible from diverse
backgrounds and traditions and bring them together! Girls in attendance interact with outstanding
role models from the community, build meaningful friendships, and learn about
their own unique strengths and gifts.

What exactly is a Game Day?
Game Days are typically a one-time, three-hour program that consists of a traditional
sport/fitness activity, non-traditional sport/fitness activity, and a health
education topic. (Please see below for
examples). All participants get a healthy snack, a goody bag of prizes and
information about free and affordable resources and activities in their
community, and information about the health education topic presented. Most Game Days consist of 50-100 girls!
The following are examples of
activities you can choose from—we are flexible and welcome alternative choices!
Traditional activities:
basketball, volleyball, softball, track & field, soccer, cheerleading, and
tennis
Non-traditional activities: yoga,
pilates, kickboxing, dancing (salsa, hip-hop, ballet, jazz, modern, belly),
lacrosse, field hockey, ultimate Frisbee, caproeira, football, and badminton
Health topics: smart eating,
peer-pressure, self-esteem, bullying, healthy friendships and/or relationships,
teen dating violence, drugs/alcohol awareness, body image, hygiene, street
smarts, leadership, and team-building
Who are Game Days for?
All girls and young women! Our programming is very flexible and we have worked
with girls ages 6-22. Game Days are most
effective when a small age group is targeted for the event, i.e. grades 3rd-6th
or 6th-8th.
We bring Game Days to Chicago Public Schools, neighboring suburbs, parks,
and often collaborate with other organizations and nonprofits looking to
provide a special and unique opportunity for the girls and/or young women in
their programs
How do I schedule a Game Day?
It’s just a matter of selecting a date, allocating spaces for the different
rotations, and picking what rotations you would like us to bring to your girls!
Girls in the Game coordinates the rest! We will find the volunteers, guest
coaches, bring the equipment, healthy snacks, and prizes. Please call or e-mail
Ashley Hernandez at 312.633.4263 or
Ashley@girlsinthegame.org
How can I help support a Game Day in
my community?
There are plenty of ways!
Sponsorship
|
| | Kraft Cares Day at Namaste Charter School
|
|
|
If you work for a company or local business that is looking to give back to
your community and help support the families that support you—please take a
look at our sponsorship levels and benefits! What better way to improve
the overall health and wellness of a hundred girls and their families, while
increasing the awareness of your business?! In addition, this is a great
opportunity to get your staff out into the community and getting some exercise
as well—it’s a great team-building activity!
Sponsors are invited to identify a particular school(s) or site(s) or choose
from a site that has already requested a Game Day. For more information, about
how to become a sponsor, please contact Ashley Hernandez at 312.633.4263 or at Ashley@girlsinthegame.org.
Be a Guest Coach!
Who better to empower youth through exercise and healthy
lifestyles than professionals in the field?! This is a chance to reach out to
your community and make a difference in a hundred lives, in just 3 hours! We
serve very diverse and underserved communities, and these girls don’t usually
have access or the opportunity to be exposed to these activities. Give girls the
needed exposure and attention they deserve!
We also welcome inexperienced coaches and youth leaders who
would like a chance to build their skills! We offer curriculum for our
rotations that we can train you on and make sure you feel comfortable leading
with. We also welcome suggestions and
revisions as well. Please contact Ashley Hernandez at 312.633.4263 or Ashley@girlsinthegame.org for more information!
Volunteers
| | Help Give Girls the Personal Attention They Deserve!
|
|
We are always looking for volunteers to serve as motivators
throughout the event and to help keep the girls’ energy up—whether you are by
yourself, or coming as a group! The more volunteers we have, the more personal
attention the girls will receive! This is a great opportunity for large groups
to get involved, for example: collegiate athletic teams, college clubs
(sororities, service clubs, etc.), corporate groups, women’s groups, and other
community groups. Please contact Ashley Hernandez at 312.633.4263 or at Ashley@girlsinthegame.org for more information! Game Day Schedule 2006-2007 September Partner sites and supporters:
