What Makes a Good Leader?

“Working hard can be fun when you love your job.”

This is just one lesson 11 participants from the Girls’ Advisory Board learned when conducting a Women Leaders Interview with three members of the National Association of Black Sports Professionals last week.

Looking to learn more about careers in sports for women, the girls met with Halleemah Nash, Community Relations Assistant for the Chicago Bulls, Hillary Thomas, Community Relations Intern for the Chicago Bulls, and Michelle Geddes, President and CEO of M Group, Worldwide, Inc.

The Girls’ Advisory Board definitely gave the professional women something to think about when asking questions about their careers and leadership.

“What do you think makes a good leader?” asked Monique, age 16.  Taking the women several moments to collect their thoughts and respond, Michelle shared with the eagerly awaiting ears, “Positivity breeds positivity. It’s important to learn how to disarm people from negativity so you can bring other people up with you.”

“A true leader knows when to follow,” added Halleemah.

Not only did the girls take away a lot of good advice from the women leaders, they were able to give back as well. During the interview, Halleemah informed the girls that the one sport she really wanted to learn how to play was volleyball. Right away, two incredibly excited girls, A’Janae and Perryiana volunteered to teach her how to play when she visits summer camp.
