Why Girls in the Game
Do you remember the childhood joys of recess, trying different sports in gym class, and racing friends on bikes up and down the street? Girls in Chicago do not experience the same healthy and active lifestyles many of us grew up with, which allowed us to build our confidence, self-esteem and healthy habits as adults.
Girls in the Game provides and promotes sports & fitness opportunities, nutrition & health education and leadership development to enhance the overall health and well-being of all girls. Girls are encouraged to get in the game —any game—so they can learn teamwork and determination, and to make choices that lead to a happier, healthier life!
The Girls in the Game Charity Race Team allows you to relive the empowerment of your childhood, by reaching one of your goals and helping Girls in the Game reach ours. By racing with the team and achieving your own personal race and fitness goals, you help educate the community about the lack of opportunities for girls to get active and healthy, while raising money to help support the quality programs Girls in the Game continues to provide to more than 2,000 girls a year. The goal of the Charity Race Team is to raise $80,000 to help hundreds of girls get in the game! Eighty percent of all funds raised go directly toward programming—far above the national standard of 65 percent.

"I believe in the work that Girls in the Game is doing. Having a daughter has taught me the value of participating in sports: developing self confidence, self-esteem and the ability to stay true to one’s self."
-Girls in the Game Charity Race Team Member, 2008
