Volunteer

Change the world in four hours. It may sound too good to be true, but for those who volunteer with Girls in the Game, it is as simple as it sounds. This year volunteers contributed over 8,000 hours of time, talent and compassion to the girls and young women in our programs.

Yes, this may be more than four hours a week, but it all starts with that first volunteer experience. And there are so many ways individuals and groups can get involved. From weekly, monthly or yearly commitments, girls and young women are benefiting from spending time with caring, positive male and female adult role models.

Just a few highlights this quarter:
  • Susan, a dedicated volunteer, coaches in one of our weekly after school sites in North Lawndale.
  • Four male teammates from a competitive volleyball league led skills and drills for our teens and then learned a dance from the girls.
  • Quarles & Brady, a local law firm, is hosting an end of the year party for our Union Park after school program.
  • PepsiCo sends volunteers each week to help train our girls triathlon team.
  • Tina organized a sports equipment drive, supplying us with tennis rackets and more.
We Need You!

Girls in the Game helps more than 2,500 girls each year and we couldn't do it without the dedication and support of our many volunteers. Regardless of your experience and background, there are many ways to get involved. Whether you want to come out for a day or help out weekly, Girls in the Game welcomes your time and energy.

Requirements:
  • Volunteers must be 18 or older.
  • Volunteers must agree to submit to a background check.
  • Volunteers must attend a one hour volunteer orientation.
Volunteer Opportunities Include:

Girls' Advisory Board
Our Girls' Advisory Board events take girls all over the city. Volunteers are needed to help chaperone events and participate in activities with the girls. We're also looking for professional women to participate in our Women Leaders Interview Program.

Girls in the Game After-School
Become a one-time guest coach or a weekly assistant at one of our after school elementary sites. Or, assist at one of our Saturday field trips, which bring together girls from different sites.

Teen Club
Become a one-time guest coach or a weekly assistant at one of our middle or high school programs.

Sports and Leadership Summer Camp
Lead a sports or health workshop during summer camp. Or just come out to help coach during a day of camp.

GameDays: One-Day Events
Put your sports skills to good use or help out during a health rotation during a Game Day event. Not ready to lead? We always need help guiding participants through the rotations, and assisting in the planning of these three-hour events.

Tutor/Homework Help
As our most intensive program operating three days a week, the Union Park After School program depends on volunteers to assist with homework help and serve as mentors for the girls.

Special Events
Girls in the Game relies on our special events to raise awareness and funds each year. We're always looking for new energy and creative ideas to help make our events a success.

Technical Support
Are you a technology whiz who could contribute to the efficiency and success of Girls in the Game operations? If so, we could use your help to keep our systems in tip-top shape.

Special Interests
Are you interested in a specific area? Do you possess expertise in something not covered in our current volunteer program? Please let us know and we can look into matching you with the perfect project for your expertise.
