Game Days

Many girls first get in the game through a Game Day, a three-hour event introducing different sports and fitness activities while teaching girls leadership, nutrition and life-skills. Girls have fun in an all-girl environment and learn to enjoy being healthy and active. Game Days are divided into three rotations. One rotation teaches girls a sport they are familiar with like basketball while another rotation introduces a non-traditional sport like yoga. The third rotation covers topics such as bullying, healthy relationships and nutrition.

Once girls experience a Game Day, they usually want to become more involved with Girls in the Game. All Game Day participants are invited to join other Girls in the Game programs such as our Sports and Leadership Summer Camp and our Girls' Advisory Board. And they aren’t the only ones that want more of our programs. This year, forty percent of our After School sites started as a Game Day site!

"The girls were beaming when they left school on Friday, exuding a confidence that comes when one has given their best and engaged in meaningful work," says Principal Cynthia Fogarty. Download and read her full testimonial, here. (PDF)

Because Game Days travel to different sites throughout the city, they are a great opportunity to get the community involved. We look for sponsors and volunteers to make Game Days succeed. If you’re interested in getting more involved in a Game Day close to you, please contact Monique Turner at 312.633.GAME (4263).
